Biography
Gap lake is a remote lake located north within the treeline of North Ram river. It sits within the geographical & ecological region of the montane valleys just after the front range of the mountains.
The lake is fed through runoffs from the south & is surrounded by a predominantly coniferous mixedwood forest at its waterline on the north & south ends within the valley. The west & east sides of the lake resemble a completely coniferous subalpine forest.

Flora
In order of determining edible uses of vegetation, medical practices & precautions, knowing the regional biomes are essential.
There are 4 regions in the perimeter of Gap.
- Alpine
The alpine tundra region consists of bare rock terrain with no treeline & extremely limited herbal / grassy vegetation. Alpine regions are characterized by steep elevations, limited flat terrain, steep cliff sides, longer winters, & heavier precipitation throughout the year.
- Subalpine
The subalpine treeline is the farthest reach of forest before reaching extreme elevations where you see transitions with the alpine. Subalpine forests are completely coniferous & have a very mossy baseground with limited shrub & herbal vegetation. Often these forests sit on an elevation & do not have a flat ground.
- Montane
Montane forests are often found around valley water lines such as rivers & lakes. They are characterized by its predominantly coniferous forest with limited deciduous vegetation, richer herbal / shrub variation & its grassy flatter ground. Montane forests are the rarest & most rare form of forest to find within the mountains & are generally found in major river ways or just past the front ranges within upper foothill valleys.
- Waterline
The waterline is Gap lake & all biotic life within the lake. This waterline in particular is the scene of a series of runoffs feeding into the valley way & forming a lake. These runoffs occur after the snow melts & during rainfall resulting in a large depth center of the lake.

Scouting
Scouting the perimeter of basecamp, a waterline or a nearby mountain is essential to knowing what’s going on in the area. However scouting takes preparation & knowing recognisable geographical waypoints.
Gap lake has a dense forest surrounding the waterline with an alpine region located north east of the lake that provides a nice overlook of the area.
